Summer Check Out Contest

All ages

Beginning after Canada Day, all patrons are eligible to fill out a ballot each time they visit (limit 1 per day). Patrons can select the box with the image of their preferred prize and deposit their ballot.  

When: July 2nd - August 30.

Draws will be made on August 4 and September 3.

Guided Heritage Hike

All ages; 18 and under require 18+ caregiver; drop-in

Join library staff and fellow community members for an in-town walking tour. Walkers will start at the library and complete a 3.5km loop while learning about important structures and locations in the West Perth landscape. This is a Perth County Reads event.

When: 6-7:30pm on Thursday, September 4

Where: Beginning at the library; Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Weather permitting.

Beekeeping 101

Ages 14+

Have you always wanted to become a beekeeper, but didn't know where to start? Join Kayla from Oats and Honey Homestead as she educates us about bees and honey and the basics of what is required to keep bees. This is a Perth County Reads program.

Rural School Stories

Adults, drop-in

Library staff will share stories about Rural One-Room School experiences. Participants will be encouraged to share their personal stories in this interactive program. This is a Perth County Reads program.

Ages 14+

Do you have an interest in learning to make sourdough? Meet with library staff and fellow enthusiasts to learn how to make and keep a sourdough starter. Share recipes and tips to get you started. This is a Perth County Reads program.

The Past in the Present: 
Archaeology in Ontario

Ages 16 and up, drop-in

This talk introduces you to archaeology, an approach to studying the past in the present, and provides a broad overview of what we know about Ontario's past and how we know it. The talk will also cover how West Perth fits into the broader story of Ontario's past and the history that lies just outside your door. A presentation by Dr. Chris Kerns.

Be Dragon Ready

All ages

Dragons like to start fires, so we all need to Be Dragon Ready!

Join the West Perth Fire Department and library staff for an exciting event. This event will include a story time, firefighter gear try-on and much more. Children and families will learn about fire safety in public buildings and participate in a mock evacuation of the library. 

When: 11am - noon on Friday, October 10 (PA Day)

Casserole Recipe Swap

Ages 14+, drop-in

Join fellow community members and library staff in this recipe sharing event. Discuss the role of food in rural communities, as shown in our PC Reads book Finding Larkspur.

Please bring 2 casserole recipes to share; digital copies will be shared with the whole group after the event. This is a Perth County Reads program.

Dan Needles: Author Visit

Adults

Come learn more about Finding Larkspur, this year's Perth County Reads selection. Dan Needles will be providing a reading from his latest book followed by a discussion. Copies of the book will be available for sale.

When: 2pm on Friday, October 24

Where: Perth East Recreation Complex, 40 Temperance St., Milverton

Details: Free tickets will be available starting October 1 at Perth East Public Library and North Perth Public Library branches.
